We've written this page to help you understand what certain spa and pool jargon means and most importantly what the benefits are to you.

Hopefully this will cover most of the common words which cause confusion but please contact us should you require further clarification.

Swim Jets/Endless Pools:  These are powerful jets which have been designed specifically to swim against.  They are sometimes referred to as 'endless pool' jets because they in effect give you the benefit of never getting to the end of your pool.  This makes them the perfect for a domestic pool where you still want the benefit of actually using it to swim.  There are different types of jets, some come as part of a pool or swim spa and some can be added later, there are also different strenghths depending on the power you'd prefer to swim against.

Heat Exchangers:
What are Heat exchangers?  They are a low cost but exceedingly effective alternatives to traditional electric heaters.
How does a swimming pool heat exchanger work?  Heat exchangers simple use the heat from one source to heat another.  In the case of our pool heater, it uses ambient air temperature and converts it to a greater heat for your pool.    This is a clever piece of technology and makes these far cheaper to run than a standard heater and even at say -2 degrees celcius the heater can produce heating power to over 8kW.

Ionisers:  First a little bit of history:  Copper and silver have been used for centuries to sanitise water. Copper is a well know algicide and silver is a powerful bactericide. In the ancient Greek civilization, the nobility used to drink from silver goblets and their water was stored in silver urns in order to purify their drinking water.
In the 1960's, NASA developed a silver ionizer to purify the astronauts drinking water for use on the Apollo missions.
So how does a water ioniser work:  In a nutshell, water passes through the in-line system where copper and silver ions are released, thus killing bacteria and algae.  It's that simple and exceedingly effective.

Ionisers have the following benefits:
Reduces chlorine usage by up to 60%
Keeps water free from algae
Reduces running costs
Reduced water maintenance

These are a perfect addition to a pool or spa, especially for holiday homes where constant monitoring of the water is difficult.

We have been so impressed with the visible results of using ionisers that we now offer a quality British brand (Puronizer) as standard on our sports pool and will be looking to roll it out to our other water products soon.

Ozonators:
So what is Ozone?  It is natures purifier.  It not only forms a protective layer in the earth's atmosphere, shielding us from the suns harmful radiation, but is also effective at killing bacteria and viruses found in water.  In fact ozone is used to sanitise over 90% of bottled water.  It is the most powerful oxidiser which can be safely used in spas and pools and is far more effective than chlorine.  It also has no harmful side effects.
What are Ozonators?  Ozonators replicate the way ozone is created in nature.  Ozone not only improves the quality of your water but also helps you other sanitisers work more effectively.

Zeoclere/Zeolite:  This is a direct replacement to sand as a filter medium.  You can use it in your current sand filter system, so no expensive equipment upgrades.  We now offer it as standard where we would normally provide sand.

The benefits over sand are that sand will only filter down to 40 microns whereas Zeoclere will filter down to 1 micron.  However it offers so much more...
  • 60% better water clarity than sand
  • Saves water (through reduced backwashing requirements)
  • Reduces chemical use by up to 30% (due to its superior filtration)
  • Helps keep your pool water pH balanced
  • The superior quality of Zeoclere also means it will last for 7 years before you'll need to replace it.
As with all products, there are higher and lower quality versions.  The same goes with the Zeolite family of products.  Some of the cheaper brands break down far quicker and are not such efficient filter mediums as the Zeoclere brand (think Fairy liquid v's a supermarket own brand).  So check for testimonials and longevity proof before commiting to buy.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is using water to treat various types of medical conditions. This practice has been part of disease and health condition treatment for thousands of years. Many ancient cultures, including Japan, China, and Rome used hydrotherapy as standard practice.
Hydrotherapy is typically used to improve muscle tone, help with digestive and intestinal processes, stimulate circulation, improve the immune system, and offer pain relief. Water has the unique ability to eliminate stress and heal the body. It can not only assist the external body parts like skin, it can also soothe the major organs as well as the nervous system.

Mood lighting:  This is a sequence of strategically positioned LED lights in mood enhancing colours.  You can set them to a colour of your choice, have them flash like disco lights! or the most popular choice is to have them slowly scroll through the spectrum.
They are a a relaxing enhancement to any spa experience.
